In case of emergency or even in trying to repair and check your car, try the following tips in using car jacks:

  1. Park the vehicle on an equal level ground and raise up the parking brake. Leave manual transmission vehicle in first gear or in reverse mode and put automatic cars in park.
  2. Put a chock or a brick behind or in front of the wheel all depending on the road's incline diagonally opposite one being lifted up.
  3. Put the car jack under the vehicle’s frame nearest the wheel to be lifted up. There is a thin lip that runs along the side of your vehicle, this is where the car jack should go. The car’s manual will have a picture of the safest position to put the jack. Bumper car jacks will attach to slots in the front or rear bumper (on older cars).
  4. When the car jack is in position already, stick in the handle in accordance to the directions on the car jack, and turn or ratchet the handle to make the jack lift up. If it lowers or it cannot turn, rotate the handle the other manner, or flip the switch labeled as 'R' and 'L' (for 'raise' and 'lower').
  5. Lift the jack high adequate to either remove a flat tire or position the car on a jack stand which is a sturdy temporary stand at a fixed height. If you are changing a flat, remember to leave extra space - the new tire will be full of air.
  6. Lower the car jack when you are through. Be careful and go slowly. If you have utilized a jack stand prior to lowering the car jack you will have to raise the car slightly to pull the stand from its position.
